Seeing Comes Before Words is a creative strategy exploring vision and language in mindful encounters of the everyday.
I find myself stepping out of my thoughts for a moment to take a photo, and considering this new image, writing down the first four words that come to mind. Something about this process of creating an image and writing the four words enhances my memory of the event, I remember all of these moments.
As a creative strategy Seeing Comes Before Words brings sustainability and mindfulness to the often mundane cycles of my everyday life, and has been a lifeline for my practice as an artist. It allows for a non-judgemental moment when something of interest curiously catches my attention. There is no censorship or curation - it exists purely in that moment as a spontaneous act. As a whole this project becomes a meditative practice, allowing creativity to be an ever present reality regardless of the pressures faced in life.
